چکیده

It is shown that in the estimation of an arbitrary signal corrupted by additive Gaussian noise, the optimum minimum-variance estimator is always a simple linear transformation of the logarithmic gradient of the average likelihood ratio which is obtained in the optimum detection of the same signal. Conversely, the average likelihood ratio can always be expressed in a simple functional form containing only the minimum-variance estimator of the unknown signal.

بازاندیشی نسبت نظر و عمل در کار معمار، با تکیه بر خوانش گادامر از آراء ارسطو دربارۀ «حکمت عملی»

This paper provides answers to one of the most commonly asked questions in architectural education, which is about the lack of coherence resulting in the separation of theory and practice in architecture, by exploring philosophical concepts and assumptions. A look into Aristotle’s views about practice and theory reveals a new meaning of “practice," dimensions of which have been...

Optimum Local Decision Rules in a Distributed Detection System with Dependent Observations

The theory of distributed detection is receiving a lot of attention. A common assumption used in previous studies is the conditional independence of the observations. In this paper, the optimization of local decision rules for distributed detection networks with correlated observations is considered. We focus on presenting the detection theory for parallel distributed detection networks with fi...

A Model-Driven Decision Support System for Software Cost Estimation (Case Study: Projects in NASA60 Dataset)

Estimating the costs of software development is one of the most important activities in software project management. Inaccuracies in such estimates may cause irreparable loss. A low estimate of the cost of projects will result in failure on delivery on time and indicates the inefficiency of the software development team. On the other hand, high estimates of resources and costs for a project wil...

TWO-STAGE METHOD FOR DAMAGE LOCALIZATION AND QUANTIFICATION IN HIGH-RISE SHEAR FRAMES BASED ON THE FIRST MODE SHAPE SLOPE

In this paper, a two-stage method for damage detection and estimation in tall shear frames is presented. This method is based on the first mode shape of a shear frame. We demonstrate that the first mode shape slope is very sensitive to the story stiffness. Thus, at the first stage, by using the grey system theory on the first mode shape slope, damage locations are identified in shear frames. Da...
